Elaine Kim is a medical doctor and entrepreneur.
She practises medicine in the field of palliative care, and has close to a decade of clinical experience, mostly at HCA Hospice Care, where she cares for terminally ill patients throughout Singapore in their homes.
Elaine is also the co-founder and CEO of CRIB, a Singapore-based social enterprise that empowers women to become successful entrepreneurs. It does so through core programmes including: (1) CRIB Society which provides a support community and business network, (2) the CRIB Match programme which provides start-ups access to funding through its signature Pitch Perfect programme, and CRIB Angels Club (a network of investors keen to fund early-stage female-led startups), as well as helps founders build their start-up team through CRIB Match Mixer, and (3) the CRIB Business Incubator which provides chosen start-ups access to mentorship, resources and funding. As a pilot project for CRIB, she founded boutique event planning company Milk and Honey Event Design.
As a working parent, and a passionate advocate for involved parenthood alongside career success, Elaine co-founded Trehaus Co-work, Singapore’s first co-working space which combines a vibrant, conducive co-working environment with an adjacent creche that provides full child-minding, nursery programmes and enrichment classes. The first location is on Orchard Road in Singapore, with plans for upcoming local and regional expansion. Trehaus’ unique concept aims to disrupt the traditional workplace environment, and heralds the future of work for the working parent.
An experienced entrepreneur and angel investor, her other businesses have included Trinity Bridal in Hong Kong and Trinity Gallery in Singapore, luxury retail boutiques that bring international designer bridal and evening gowns to Asia. The business carries exclusive distributorships of leading designers such as Oscar de la Renta, Monique Lhuillier, Carolina Herrera , Elie Saab and Jenny Packham.
Elaine also freelances as a travel journalist, regularly contributing stories on luxury travel to magazines including Tatler, Robb Report, Prestige and Billionaire.
Actively involved in philanthrophic causes, she has led awareness-building and fund-raising initiatives for charities such as Bone Marrow Donor Programme, Dover Park Hospice, HCA Hospice Care and RiverKids, raising over a million dollars for causes that support patients with cancer, the terminally ill and protect at-risk children from trafficking and abuse. She was an ambassador for SNOW (Say “No” to the Oppression of Women”), a UN Women initiative that enables programmes which prevent violence against women. At the helm of CRIB, she also launched their philanthropic arm CRIB Gives Back, which helps raise funds for charities, supports social enterprises and engages the philanthropic community to drive thoughtful giving.
She is married to venture capitalist John Kim, managing partner of Amasia VC, a cross-border venture capital firm with offices in Silicon Valley and Singapore. They have 3 young sons.
